Goin bush to fairbairn - Month of April update!
Going to house-sit Dad and Jo's place in Fairbairn for the next month while they go holidaying in Europe. Coincidently the month I am taking over coaching Women's while their Coach, Tristan, goes holidaying in the States.
To get me through the long and boring times I will probably watch a heap of DVD's on Dad's mega 50" rear-projection tv and play my new Xbox 360! Woot! Picked it up second hand for a lousy $450 which is $250 short of the current Gears of War pack which includes the game and subscription to Xbox Live. I grabbed second hand Dead or Alive 4 to test it out, and that is a heck of a launch title although in my hands it is generally mindless button mashing! The graphics are fantastic and I can't wait to run it on the big telly and am praying that it will be able to handle the signal!
This is my re-entry into consoles after my long time relationship with the Dreamcast - a fantastic machine with a fantastic line up of games. Staying a year behind the times works well for me - I don't crave the newest title, and certainly don't enjoy paying the premium that comes with buying games at launch price. I prefer to sit behind the wave and pick up the best titles which inevitably fall in price or can be picked up second hand, or grabbing the awesome eclectic games that don't capture mass attention and have to be flogged off eventually to clear stock! In the case of the Dreamcast ALL the games eventually came by and I didn't have enough money sometimes they flew past so quickly! One day I will have to pay a few dollars and pick up a new Dreamcast console so my extensive catalogue of games doesn't collect dust forever!
Not too much has happened in the last month. At work the big drama is one of the grads being faced with termination! It is her battle to fight though and I hope it works out well for her. Meantime I have to hunt down some bits and pieces for my security clearance before I can move. That old passport is proving elusive!
I went to Sydney for Amy's birthday which was great fun and went white water rafting. Expensive but certainly whet my appetite to go natural rafting sometime in the future!
My knee was the final big thing to happen this month. And big is the word of choice because after playing 2 games in 2 days preceded and followed by training, my knee swelled up until it locked. I misguidedly forced myself to play for 15 minutes the following week in round 1 of the soccer season only to develop another weird painless cyst extruding from the side of my knee. A week and a bit on crutches later the swelling is gone and I abstained from playing in Round 2, which we fortunately won 5-1 instead of the 2-1 losing scoreline that prompted me to take the field. With players coming back from injury I can stay off it until I see my specialist in a few weeks. Something is clearly wrong as it now swells after even a very light kick about or jog - less activity than I would consider to be 'training'. Alas.
Finally going to Melbourne for Legal Training with work on Monday evening and will catch up with Gof and crash on his couch and use my Travel Allowance to buy my Xbox! Vj was supposed to be going down this weekend but had a sudden onset of shingles! HAhahah!
Oh yeah, and we got game tickets to the Asian Cup and booked our flights to Thailand! The ball is rolling now which is very cool. A small annoyance was we missed out on Cat A tickets to the final it appears despite doing everything right. I guess Cat B will have to do - on the plus side they are dirt cheap seats, but then again, so were the Cat A given it's the Final of a Continental Club Competition!
p.s. I want a Nokia n95! Coolest most fabulotastic phone ever! Also with price tag to match!
