I've actually been back for a week now. I was considering porting all my south east asian holiday blog posts over from
the teamawesome blog, but honestly that seems like a lot of effort.
I started my new job at Customs on Monday. It is pretty good so far and I am beginning to gain an understanding of the work that is done here and how I will contribute to that work. At first it was a little bit daunting, and a few hiccups prevented my from becoming over excited all at once. No computer access, a sprained thumb, waking up for a 9am start and no first pay cheque are the main small annoyances.
However the team is very friendly, there is free parking (albeit a moderate hike away), and there seems to be a good chance for high profile work with international travel in the pipeline!
Been wearing my new suits which I am reasonably happy with, but keep finding problem after problem with the bespoke shirts.
Soccer last week really brought me down to earth - literally. Having been on the field for a few seconds I promptly fell on my wrist and caused the aforementioned sprain. Which apart from the pain, and later anguish when we lost 3-0, made introductions on my first day of work very awkward as I avoided the stream of people wanting to wring my hand. Bouncing back from this defeat is top of my list, but with another poor turn out to training this week, I have noticed that my enthusiasm in the men's game is waning the way it did last year with women's. Perhaps it is time to take another break, which would coincide with a switch back to women's if Ranse's plan goes ahead next term.
I also went to scout Lanyon for Ranse on Sunday and scribbled some notes together. They turned into an 8 page report which I thought was pretty decent. My tactical knowledge is where my strength lies as a coach, but that necessitates having options available. There is no strategy without choice.
Finally capital football is advertising for academy coaches for the next academy 'season'. I don't know much of the details and am not as keen as I was the first time the thought popped into my head, but the benefits of such an experience remains an enticement.
