With enough time and skill, players can be made skilful. Committment brings players to training, games and ready to learn. Appreciation offsets the coaches effort.
In my first year I had no time. This made life difficult combined with players of basic skill. In my second year I had time and more skilful players, but didn't feel appreciated. Now in my third year my girls are lacking in committment. I haven't been as keen as previous seasons either - this is because I came into the season with the mentality that I wouldn't waste my time, and with that in mind I would be feeling much worse had I put in the extra yards this year as I think it's pretty clear my investment is yielding little. Mens on the other hand I get everything. Appreciation isn't as affectionate as in womens of course, but having players who want to play is pretty crucial. And want to play means want to train.
Football is joy. It is an escape. It is expression. The reason to come to football is to play football.
Good boots help too ;)
